Science Branches and Sub Branches

Science Branches and sub branches is a vast field to discuss if we go in deeper. Because Science means “Knowledge” and it is like a Ocean, it increases every day. Their is no limit of knowledge you can extent your knowledge based on your interests. But here we learn about basic Science Branches and sub branches in brief. Their are three major branches of Science which are Physical Science, Life Science and Social Science. Their are also sub branches of these three major branches which is given here. By reading this article you may be aware about all the branches of science.

Science Branches and Sub Branches

There are three major Science Branches which are given below in detail along with sub branches of science.

1.) Physical Sciences

Science Branches

Physical science is an term for the branches of natural science and science that study non-living systems, in contrast to the life sciences. Many branches of physical science also study biological phenomena. Sub branches of Physical sciences which looks physical aspects of how thing happen are as follows:

Physics – A natural science that involves chemical laws of nature like motion, energy, force, objects, etc. related to universe and its function

Chemistry – It is the science of matter and the changes it undergoes. The study and of various elements, composition, structure, chemical process, etc.

Astronomy – The study of world in and beyond the atmosphere of the earth. It is the study of space. It uses both physics and chemistry to understand what is happening in space.

Astronomers, Engineers study physical sciences

2.) Life Sciences

Science Branches

Life Science is the Science Branches that involve the study of living organism like plants, animals and human beings. Medicine are also considered to be in life science. These science explain how different life forms work. These also divide into sub branches which are as follows:

Botany – It is a known science branches of biology that involves the scientific study of plant life.

Zoology – It is the branch of science that involve the structure, embryology, evolution, classification, habits, and distribution of all animals, both living and extinct.

Human Biology– It is the science branches that focuses on humans. It involve the study of human beings, nutrition, diseases, medicine, etc.

Genetic Science – It is the science branches that study about genes, genetic facts, diseases of genes, etc. Ex- why a child look like a parents.

Medicine – It is the branch of science that study, diagnosis, research, etc. of various diseases and treatments.

3.) Earth Science

Science Branches

Earth science also known as geoscience, or the Earth sciences is an a term for the sciences related to the planet Earth. It may include the study of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, oceans and biosphere, as well as the solid earth. The sub branches are as follows

Ecology – It include the study of environment, relation of living organisms in the environment and ecosystem

Oceanology – It is also Called Marine Science, it broadly covers all topics related to the Ocean

Meteorology – It is the branch of science that study about climate, rainfall, wind, speed, density, etc. related to the Atmosphere

Geology – It is the branch of science that study about various aspects of earth, an interesting branch that deals with digging the past

Palaeontology – It is the branch of science Similar to Geology, which deals with studying various objects that existed in the prehistoric period. Sub branches, a blend of physics, chemistry, and biology.

Bio-Chemistry – It is a combination of Biology and Chemistry. It is the branch of science like Organic Chemistry, study about various processes happening in living organisms

Bio-Physics – It is a combination of Biology and Physics. It is the branch of science or blend of Physics and Biology, where the concepts and theories of Physics are applied in biological elements

Biotechnology – It is a new branch of science emerged as a baby of Biology and Technology, which deals with exploring microorganisms for production of drugs, artificial hormones, etc.

What is Science? – Simple Definition

What is Science?

Science is the careful study of the structure and behavior of the physical world, especially by watching, measuring, and doing experiments, and the development of theories to describe the results of these activities. Or systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.

Science is a vast topic to discuss, it’s not limited. Lets make it simple for you in few steps:

Understanding Science in Simple Language

The word science is derived from the Latin word scientia, which is “knowledge” based on demonstrable and reproducible data. Science means “to know“.

In three definition everything is cleared practically with example.

1.) Knowledge gained through experience

Example: When i started my Aerospace Engineering i did not know anything about engineering or aerospace fundamentals. But as i started reading books attend lectures, i get to know about that everything. So i gained knowledge through my experience and this is called science.

2.) Through Observation or Experiments

Example: During my Engineering i have observed all the theories, principle and performed lot of experiments for my projects. This is also a science.

3.) Facts gained by study

Example: At the end of the engineering i gained some facts or principles like Bernoulli’s principle, laws of thermodynamics. This is also called science.

The Scientific Method

Scientific Method is a method of investigation in which a problem is first identified and observations, experiments, or other relevant data are then used to construct or test hypotheses that purport to solve it. The Scientific Method is the method to develop knowledge by observation or experiments. It is like doing a series of steps. These steps are as follows

  • Asking of Questions
  • Proposing a possible solution called Hypothesis
  • Testing of solution through series of experiments
  • Examine the result of experiments
  • Generating a question known as new Hypothesis

Now guess which of the following can be tested scientifically?

  1. Diamond is hard with respect to gold – We can actually check through experiments that which one is harder.
  2. Earth revolves around Sun – This also comes under astronomical science which says it is true
  3. Unicorns are real –  This can’t be proved scientifically because there are only predictions and in science we have to prove it with reason

Who are Scientists?

The person who study or perform experiments in Science are called scientists. A scientist is a person engaging in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge.

Infact you can be a scientist by performing a series of steps which are mentioned here. Ask question behind everything that you go through in your daily life. Observe everything and try to find possible answer behind that observations. Do experiments in order to know more about tour question and then if you find something new then share it with the world. You never know you may be the Scientist of Future.
